Our History

Fyrgaarden is located on the Island of Anholt, in the middle of the Kattegat Sea. On the island’s western shore, the famous lighthouse rises over 40 metres above the sea. Once upon a time Fyrgaarden was home to the lighthouse keeper and his family. The Arén family came to Fyrgaarden in the late 60s — since then they have spent all their summers there.
The house, with its unique interior and location, have always been a place where people gather and socialize across generational boundaries. The essence of daily life at Fyrgaarden consists as much of community as privacy — eat together in the beautiful garden, or enjoy a moment of solitude in the desert or by the sea.
Many of our guests experience a rare form of peace, quiet and revival after visiting Fyrgaarden, and a unique opportunity to gain a perspective on life.
The house itself was built in the early 17th century, and consists of three ’apartments’ with access to a kitchen, dining room and a varying number of bedrooms. It is possible to rent the whole house or one of the individual apartments.
In the middle of the yard stands a hand pump, which supplies the whole house with water.
